A Tennessee- based grandmother, Ernestine Hollomon, age 58, is currently facing DUI, as well as other charges, after forcefully teaching her 13-years-old grandchild, driving that injured 5 pedestrians, according to the police report.
Holloman put her grandson in her lap, in front of the steering wheel, when their vehicle plunged onto the people on the street in Memphis, according to the WREG-TV, Memphis report.
Her grandson told the station, “I didn’t want to, but I ain’t had no choice, so she told me to sit in her lap and I did.”
On Tuesday, the incident took place around 10 p.m., while some of the victims were severely injured. According to the station, many of them had suffered from severe head injuries, as well as broken bones.
A tweet from Memphis police says, “Ernestine Hollomon 58, was charged with Driving While License Sus/Rev/Can, DUI/Child Endangerment-child under 18, and Financial Responsibility Law.”
The grandchild was later interviewed by WREG, who claimed to hit the brake before the automobile struck anyone. The identity of the teen was not revealed by the Fox News, because of his age. The teen repeatedly said that he tried to stop the car, but his grandmother’s foot was on the gas pedal.
He said, “I ain’t know what to do. I pushed the brake but she pushed the gas pedal and went straight ahead and started crashing into those folks.” Jennifer Hollomon, Hollomon’s daughter, when questioned why she allowed her son to take the driving lessons she said, “I don’t know.”
Jennifer Hollomon in her statement said that, “I hope she’s learning her lesson the whole time she’s in jail.” She further added, “I hope she thinks twice next time.”
On Thursday, the grandmother will make her first court appearance. In the meanwhile, the teen said he is done with driving. In his statement delivered to the station, he said, “I ain’t want to drive no more.”
