Keanu Reeves’ John Wick has officially received another confirmation to start the filming for a new sequel, John Wick 5.
John Wick 4 is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2022, which was initially supposed to be released on May 2021 but got delayed due to coronavirus pandemic. John Wick 5 is expected to begin with its production and filming next year, as soon as the filming for the John Wick 4 ends.
On Thursday, Jon Feltheimer, the Lionsgate CEO, while delivering his statement to the Deadline said that “We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022.”
He further added, “We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 and 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”
There is absolutely no doubt that the Lionstage wants this franchise to keep running after the extreme success of all its 3 films that made a gross income of $587 million worldwide.
In June, the director of the John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski said that he used the lockdown for the purpose of cracking the 4th installment.
In his statement, delivered to The Hollywood Reporter, he said that “Obviously, the Wicks isn’t formulaic or anything like that, so it takes a little while to kind of come up with the thematic we want to do and how nutty and subversive we want to be on storytelling.” He continued, “So, it’s been a lot of back and forth to really try and crack what we want to do with the next John Wick.”
He also said, “There are so many ideas to go with, between the action design, the set pieces, and where we would want to shoot all that stuff. So, that’s been good for us. Time is always good when you’re in development.”
Apart from the films, there is also a prequel in the form of John Wick TV Series, titled The Continental, which is presumed to be aired sometime between the 4th and the 5th movie.
Keanu Reeves is at present shooting for The Berlin that has recently resumed production.
