In 1923, jockey Frank Hayes won a race at Belmont Park despite being dead.
Hayes suffered a heart attack mid-race but his body stayed in the saddle while his horse, Sweet Kiss, crossed the finish line first. The 22-year-old jockey's death wasn't discovered until officials came to congratulate him. This remains the only known instance of a dead man winning a horse race.
