The Indonesian superhero film, Gundala wrote and directed by Joko Anwar is going to get its US to release this year. The film is adapted from the 1960s comic book series by Harya Hashmi Suryaminata.
ABOUT THE FILM
The movie starring Abhimana Aryasatya in the title role alongside Tara Basro, Bront Palarae, and Ario Bayu, follows the story of Sancaka (Abhimana Aryasatya), a young orphan boy who is grown up on the harsh streets of Jakarta, learns to fend for himself using martial arts until he gets supernatural powers after being struck by a lightning.
When he grows up to be an adult, Gundala uses this superpower to battle against Pangkor, a merciless disfigured boss of a mob who controls an army of orphan assassins sworn to do his bidding in gratitude for his mentorship.
The film first bowed in the Toronto International Film Festival in the midnight section and is the first film installment of a planned series in the Bumilangit Cinematic Universe which has other superhero movies in making.
The film was released on August 29, 2019, in Indonesia and attracted more than 1 million moviegoers seven days after it hit the local cinema.
‘Gundala Destiny’, the English language comic book of the original Indonesian text: ‘Gundala Takdir’, was launched by Bumilangit in cooperation with a Japanese producer, Shogakukan Asia.
But the book is only for sale in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. The original novel was released in August 2019 and was a bestseller in the market.
Bumilangit and Production company announced seven upcoming superhero films in August 2019. Well, for now, Gundala is all set to hit the screens in the United States on July 28.
