1993 Mumbai blasts: 2 gets death whereas Abu Salem and Karimullah Khan sentenced to life
Karimullah Khan and Abu Salem sentenced to life imprisonment by The Terrorist and Disruptive Activity (TADA) court on Tuesday for 1993 Mumbai Blast case. These two are also fined Rs 2 lakh each. Court also announced death sentence to convicts Tahir Merchant and Feroz Khan. Whereas Riyaz Ahmed Siddiqui is sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.
On 12th March 1993, 12 bombs exploded in several places of Mumbai(Bombay). That bomb blast killed 257 people whereas injured 713. Along with this, it destroyed Rs 27 crore dollar.
Court sentenced the Convicts for different offenses. All those punishments will run concurrently. On 16th June 2017, the court convicted six people that included Mustafa Dossa and Abu Salem, the mastermind of 1993, Mumbai blast. But Abdul Quayyum could escape because of evidence. The 1993 blast killed 257 people and injured 713.
This was the second leg of the trial. The first leg took place in 2007 that convicted 100 accused in the case whereas 23 people were accused.
All those seven accused from several charges that include criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Government of India and murder. Earlier court proved Saleem as main conspirators and delivered three AK-56 rifles, ammunition and hand grenades to actor Sanjay Dutt.
