CJ Entertainment wants to score a new film hit, now in collaboration with the mind behind The Devil’s Legacy (2018) and Midsommar (2019).
Latest reports suggest that the production house behind Parasite has forged a partnership with filmmaker Ariz Aster to conceive the remake of a Korean classic.
According to Deadline , the South Korean-based company plans an English-speaking remake of Save the Green Planet! , a science fiction comedy that CK Entertainment itself produced and distributed in 2003.
For the sake of orchestrating a reinvention, the newly formed Square Peg company – founded by Ara Aster and producer Lars Knudsen – will join its Korean counterpart to cover part of the financing and production.
Save the Green Planet! It follows the story of Bun-goo, a paranoid beekeeper who is convinced that Earth will soon undergo an alien attack.
Assuming himself to be the last hope on the planet, he and his girlfriend decide to kidnap a powerful businessman, whom they consider an alien.
Through torture, the captors try to convince their victim to contact the “Royal Prince” and convince him to suspend his catastrophic plans.
Jon-wan Jane , director and screenwriter of the original film, was signed to also headline the projected remark. To adapt the original script, the participation of Will Tracy , writer of the HBO Succession series , has already been agreed.
“Swaying with youthful abandon between suspense, absurd physical comedy, grim horror and a deep sense of tragedy, Save the Green Planet! It is one of the most notable films that have come out of South Korea, within this recent wave or any other wave, really, “said Aster and Knudsen ( via ).
“When we heard that Director Jang was passionate about revisiting this iconic work, taking it to the US. and update it to reflect today’s world disaster, we take the opportunity to be a part of it. We are honored to partner with CJ and the brilliant director Jang. ”
