The Great London Beer Flood of 1814 killed eight people when a huge vat of beer burst.
On October 17, 1814, a 22-foot-tall wooden vat containing over 135,000 gallons of beer at Meux's Brewery exploded, creating a domino effect that released nearly 1 million liters of beer into the streets of London. The wave of beer destroyed several buildings and created chaos in the St. Giles area. Surprisingly, the brewery was legally cleared of wrongdoing, as the incident was deemed an 'Act of God.'
