Netflix has decided to expand the universe that stars Henry Cavill a little more by giving the green light to a prequel to ‘ The Witcher ‘. This new adventure will have a total of six episodes. Titled ‘ Blood Origin ‘, the miniseries will take place 1,200 years before the world of ‘The Witcher’ and will tell the story of the first Warlock. In passing, we will enter the Elvish world, its culture, before its fall.
Declan de Barra, who was present in the first season of ‘The Witcher’, will act as showrunner for ‘Blood Origin’. Joining him will be The Witcher chief Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as executive producer.
“As a lifelong fan of fantasy, I am beyond excited to tell The Witcher: Blood Origin story,” De Barra said in a statement. “A question has been on my mind since I read the books of ‘The Witcher’: What was the Elvish world before the cataclysmic arrival of humans? I have always been inspired by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery and culture flourish just before that fall. How vast expanses of knowledge are lost forever in such a short time, often united by colonization and a rewriting of history. “The Witcher: Blood Origin” will tell the story of the Elven civilization before its fall and, most importantly, reveal the forgotten story of the first Warlock. “.
Exploring this new world supposes, as Hissrich points out, “to expand the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski “. “We look forward to introducing fans to new characters and an original story that will further enrich our magical and mythical world.” An original story that, however, will be overseen by Sapkowski, who will work as a creative consultant.
It certainly sounds very appetizing. Who will form the cast? This new first Warlock faces the high expectations that Cavill has achieved with his character. We will continue to report on this project that has no release date but has confirmed that filming will take place in the United Kingdom.
