On HAT-P-7b, a gas giant 1,000 light-years away, changing temperatures in the atmosphere cause aluminum oxide (the same material as rubies and sapphires) to condense into clouds and then rain down as precious stones. The planet's extreme heat then vaporizes these gems back into clouds.
